ANSWER:  He is the richest Chinese Immigrant Self-made Billionaire.  He shares this honor with David Sun.  Together, each with a net worth of $4.7B.  Together, John Tu and David Sun founded Kingston Technology, the world's largest manufacturer of micro-computer memory.

Now, what is special about him?  He holds the honor of having been immigrants 4 times. 
1.  He was born in Chongqing, Sichuan China in 1940, in the middle of World War II.  After WWII, he moved to Shanghai.   Then in 1945, he immigrated to Taiwan.
2.  Second, he immigrated to Hong Kong
3.  Third, he immigrated to Germany, worked and studied there for many years, earning his BS in electrical engineering there.
4.   Fourth, he immigrated to California, where he founded Kingston Technology with David Sun.
