In 1976, Lee Stryker, the 85 year old chairman and founder of Stryker, died of a plane accident while vacationing in Wyoming. He took over as CEO.
He lead Stryker to 20% annual profit growth. When he retired, Stryker had sales of $9 Billion and 17,000 employees. He still owns 5% of Stryker. Under him Stryker grew from a hospital bed and stretcher company to a global leader in medical and precison equipments.
